Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (Single Battery)  or Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (Auxiliary Battery) .
  2. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 6.6L.
  3. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 6.6L.
  4. Remove the upper fan shroud. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement - Upper (W/O M74) or Fan Shroud Replacement - Upper (W/M74) or Fan Shroud Replacement - Upper (W/HP2) in Engine Cooling.
  5. Remove the outlet heater hose bracket bolt (2).

  7. Remove the generator bolts and reposition the generator aside. The electrical connections can remain attached to the generator.
  8. Remove the right idler pulley bolt and pulley.
  9. Remove the left idler pulley bolt and pulley.
  10. Remove the drive belt tensioner bolt and tensioner.

  12. Remove the fuel bleed valve nuts and valve.
  13. Reposition the oil separator hose clamp at the side of the generator bracket.
  14. Remove the oil separator hose from the pipe.

  16. If equipped, remove the vacuum line from the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve vacuum pump.

  18. If equipped, remove the EGR vacuum pump bolts (1, 2). Reposition the vacuum pump.

  20. Reposition the oil separator hose clamp at the bottom of the generator bracket.
  21. Remove the oil separator hose from the bracket.
  22. Remove the generator bracket bolts.
  23. Remove the generator bracket.
