Diagnostic Procedures

- Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check-Engine Controls? If yes, go to next step. If no, see DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK - ENGINE CONTROLS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Install a scan tool. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. Record the DTC Failure Records. Clear the DTC. Select the TCC Brake switch on the scan tool. Disconnect the TCC Brake switch connector from the TCC Brake switch. Connect a test lamp from terminal "E" (CKT 140) of the TCC Brake switch connector to a known-good ground. Does the test lamp illuminate? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 4 .
- Install a fused jumper wire from terminal "E" (CKT 140) to terminal "F" (CKT 17) of the TCC Brake switch connector. Did the scan tool TCC Brake switch status change from Open to Closed? If yes, go to step 10 . If no, go to step 12 .
- Remove the Stop/Hazard fuse. Inspect the Stop/Hazard fuse for an open. Is the fuse open? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 11 .
- Replace the Stop/Hazard fuse. Does the replacement fuse open immediately? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 7 .
- Test the battery positive voltage circuit (CKT 140) of the TCC Brake switch for a short to ground between the power distribution block and the TCC Brake switch connector. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 14 .
- Connect the TCC Brake switch connector. Apply the brake pedal. Does the fuse open immediately? If yes, go to next step. If no, see INTERMITTENT CONDITIONS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Disconnect the PCM connector C2. Replace the Brake switch fuse. Apply the brake pedal. Does the fuse open immediately? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 13 .
- Test the lamp switch signal circuit (CKT 17) of the TCC Brake switch for a short to ground between the PCM connector C2-B10 and the TCC Brake switch connector. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 14 .
- Replace the stop lamp switch. After repairs, go to step 14 .
- Test the battery positive voltage circuit (CKT 140) of the TCC Brake switch for an open between the power distribution block and the TCC Brake switch connector. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 14 .
- Test the lamp switch signal circuit (CKT 17) of the TCC Brake switch for an open between the PCM connector C2-B10 and the TCC Brake switch connector. Did you find and correct the condition? If yes, go to step 14 . If no, go to next step.
- Replace the PCM. See appropriate REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article. Reprogram PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE under PROGRAMMING. After repairs, go to next step.
- Perform the following procedure in order to verify your repair. Select DTC. Select Clear Info. With the engine OFF, the ignition switch is in the RUN position. Apply the brake pedal. The scan tool TCC Brake Switch status must indicate Closed, 12 volts, for 2 seconds. Select Specific DTC. Enter DTC P0719. Has the test run and passed? If yes, system is okay. If no, go to step 1 .
CAUTION:
When you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, you must disable the SIR system. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause air bag deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.
NOTE:
Before clearing the DTC, use the scan tool in order to record the Freeze Frame and Failure Records. Using the Clear Info function erases the Failure Records from the PCM.
