Remote Playback Device Left or Right Channel Inoperative

1 Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Entertainment System? Go to Step 2  Go to Diagnostic System Check - Entertainment System

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Turn ON the radio.
  3. Adjust the fade and balance knobs to the middle detent.
  4. Insert a tape, CD or CD magazine with at least 1 audio CD inside, into the remote playback device.
  5. Turn ON the remote playback device.
Does the remote playback device play on the right and left audio channels?
Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems Go to Step 3

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the remote playback device.
  3. Test the appropriate output remote playback device audio signal circuits of the remote playback device for a short, high resistance or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 9  Go to Step 4 
4 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the remote playback device. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Go to Step 9  Go to Step 5

  1. Disconnect the radio.
  2. Test the right and left audio signals and audio common signal for short or open.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 9  Go to Step 6

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Turn ON the radio.
  3. Turn up volume.
  4. Test the right and left audio channel for A/C voltage fluctuation.
  5. Does the A/C voltage signal fluctuate with the audio output?
Go to Step 7  Go to Step 8 
7 Replace the remote playback device. Refer to Remote CD Player Replacement .
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 9  -

IMPORTANT: Reprogram the radio. Refer to Service Programming System (SPS) in Programming.
Replace the Radio. Refer to Radio Replacement .Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 9  -
9 Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
Did you correct the condition?
System OK Go to Step 2
