Coolant Temperature Gauge Inaccurate Or Inoperative

- Perform INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) SYSTEM CHECK under SYSTEM TESTS. Go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC), located under left side of dash. Start engine. Observe DISPLAYED COOLANT TEMPERATURE on scan tool. If DISPLAYED COOLANT TEMPERATURE is within 25°F (11°C) of IPC gauge reading, go to next step. If DISPLAYED COOLANT TEMPERATURE is not within 25°F (11°C) of IPC gauge reading, go to step 6).
- Observe MONITORED COOLANT TEMPERATURE on scan tool. If reading is 100-260°F (38-127°C), go to next step. If reading is not 100-260°F (38-127°C), go to step 5).
- Compare MONITORED COOLANT TEMPERATURE and DISPLAYED COOLANT TEMPERATURE. If readings are within 25°F (11°C), go to next step. If readings are not within 25°F (11°C), go to step 6).
- If MONITORED COOLANT TEMPERATURE is less than 100°F (38°C), gauge should be at or near lowest reading. If MONITORED COOLANT TEMPERATURE is more than 260°F (127°C), gauge should be at or near maximum reading. If gauge is reading as specified, IPC is okay. Check for intermittent condition. If gauge is not reading as specified, go to next step.
- Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) SYSTEM CHECK under SYSTEM TESTS.
