Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 GMC Envoy XL, 2002 GMC Envoy, and 2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the J 44636-2 on the front output shaft.

  2. Align the front output shaft seal on the J 44636-2.
  3. Using the J 45236, install the front output shaft seal.

  4. Remove the J 44636-1 and the J 44636-2.
  5. Install the dust shield on the front output shaft.

  6. Install the front propeller shaft. Refer to PROPELLER SHAFT REPLACEMENT - FRONT in Propeller Shaft.

  7. Inspect the transfer case fluid level. Refer to Transfer Case Fluid Replacement .
  8. Install the fuel tank shield.

  9. Install the fuel tank mounting bolts.
    NOTE: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the fuel tank mounting bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
