Removal Procedure

- Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
- Remove the fuel tank shield mounting bolts.
- Remove the fuel tank shield.
- Remove the rear propeller shaft. Refer to PROPELLER SHAFT REPLACEMENT - REAR in Propeller Shaft.
- Drain the transfer case. Refer to Transfer Case Fluid Replacement .
- Remove the front propeller shaft. Refer to PROPELLER SHAFT REPLACEMENT - FRONT in Propeller Shaft.
- Remove the fuel lines from the retainer.
- Remove the electrical harness from the retainer (right side).
- Remove the electrical harness from the retainer (left side).
- Remove the electrical connector from the speed sensors (front speed sensor shown).
- Remove the motor/encoder electrical connector.
- Remove the transfer case wiring harness.
- Remove the vent hose.
- Install a transmission jack for the transfer case.
- Remove the transfer case mounting bolts.
- Remove the transfer case from the vehicle.
IMPORTANT: The transfer case gasket may become damaged during the removal Procedure.
- Remove the transfer case gasket.
