Installation Procedure

- Install the new seal on the transfer case adapter.
- Install the transfer adapter to the transmission.
- Install the transfer case adapter mounting bolts to the transmission.NOTE: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
Tighten
Tighten the transfer case adapter mounting bolts to 47 N.m (35 lb ft).

IMPORTANT: Do not reuse the old gasket if it is damaged, replaced it. Do not use any type of sealer in place of the gasket. - Install a new gasket the transfer case gasket on the transfer case adapter.
- Install the transfer case to the transfer case adapter. Refer to Transfer Case Assembly Replacement .
- Lower the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
