Removal Procedure

CAUTION: When a hood hold open device is being removed or installed, provide alternate support to avoid the possibility of damage to the vehicle or personal injury.
  1. Open and support the liftgate window.
    NOTE: Refer to LIFTGATE ASSIST ROD NOTICE in Cautions and Notices.
  2. Remove the retainer from the hinge pin.

    The hinge pin is located at the upper end of the liftgate window strut.

    Discard the retainer.

  3. Remove the hinge pin from the upper end of the liftgate window strut.

    Discard the hinge pin.

  4. Lift up the retainer clips on the liftgate window struts using a small flat- bladed tool.
  5. Remove the lower end of the liftgate window struts from the ball joint.
  6. Remove the liftgate window struts from the liftgate window.
