Removal (8.1L Engine)

- Turn off all lamps and accessories. Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable. See Figure .
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle with safety stands.
- If necessary, remove the engine shield bolts and shield. See Fig 1 .
- If necessary, remove the oil pan skid plate bolts and plate. See Fig 2 .
- Remove the front axle mounting bracket nut. See Figure .
- Reposition the front axle mounting bracket bolt until the bolt tip is flush with the support bushing.
- Remove the starter bolts. See Fig 3 .
- Slide the starter forward until the starter clears the transmission.
- Remove the starter lead nut. See Fig 4 .
- Remove the starter lead from the starter.
- Remove the positive cable nut. See Fig 5 .
- Remove the positive cable from the starter.
- If necessary, remove the starter heat shield bolts, nut, and shield. See Fig 6 .
NOTE:
Do not remove the bolt.
