Starter Solenoid (6.6L Engine): Removal

  1. Remove the starter motor. See STARTER  .
  2. Reposition the M-terminal stud weather cover. See Fig 1 .
  3. Clean the epoxy coating from the M-terminal stud.
  4. Loosen the M-terminal stud nut. See Fig 2 .
  5. Remove the cable from the M-terminal stud.
  6. Remove the solenoid bolts. See Fig 3 .
  7. Separate the solenoid from the housing and unhook the solenoid plunger from the drive gear lever. See Fig 4 .
  8. Note that the spring is positioned against the drive gear lever and the drive gear lever is placed inside the solenoid plunger loop. See Fig 5 .
  9. Remove the solenoid housing. See Fig 6 .
  10. If necessary, remove the solenoid plunger and spring. See Fig 7 .
