Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 GMC Sonoma and 2003 Chevrolet S10 Pickup. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Raise the transmission using the transmission jack.
  2. Install the transmission to the engine.
    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE in Cautions and Notices.
  3. Install the transmission to engine bolts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the transmission to engine bolts to 47 N.m (35 lb ft).

  4. Install transmission support frame. Refer to TRANSMISSION SUPPORT REPLACEMENT (RWD) or TRANSMISSION SUPPORT REPLACEMENT (4WD) in Frame and Underbody.
  5. Remove the transmission jack.

  6. Install the clutch housing cover.
  7. Install the clutch housing cover bolts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the clutch housing cover bolts to 14 N.m (10 lb ft).

  8. Install the wiring harness to the harness retainers.
  9. Connect the back up lamp switch electrical connector.
  10. Connect the vehicle speed sensor electrical connector.

  11. Install the clutch line to the concentric slave cylinder.

  12. Install the right side transmission to engine brace
  13. Install the right side transmission to engine brace bolts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the right side transmission to engine brace bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

  14. Install the left side transmission to engine brace
  15. Install the left side transmission to engine brace bolts and nut.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the left side transmission to engine brace bolts and nut to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

  16. Install the exhaust manifold pipe. Refer to EXHAUST MANIFOLD PIPE REPLACEMENT in Engine Exhaust.
  17. Install the rear propeller shaft. Refer to PROPELLER SHAFT REPLACEMENT - ONE PIECE or PROPELLER SHAFT REPLACEMENT - TWO PIECE in Propeller Shaft.
  18. Fill the transmission to the proper fluid level. Refer to TRANSMISSION FLUID REPLACEMENT .
  19. Lower the vehicle.
  20. Install the shift tower. Refer to SHIFT TOWER REPLACEMENT .
  21. Bleed the clutch system. Refer to HYDRAULIC CLUTCH BLEEDING in Clutch.
