Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 GMC Sonoma, 2003 GMC Jimmy, 2003 Chevrolet S10 Pickup, and 2003 Chevrolet Blazer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE in Cautions and Notices.
  1. Attach the steering column support assembly (2) to the steering column jacket assembly (3) with 4 NEW TORX® head screws (1).

    Tighten 

    1. Tighten the screws to 17 N.m (13 lb ft).

  2. Install the steering shaft assembly (1) into the support assembly (2) and the jacket assembly (3).

  3. Install the adapter and bearing assembly (1) onto the jacket assembly by performing the following procedure:
    1. 3.1. Align the tab on the adapter and bearing assembly (1) with the slot in the steering column jacket assembly.
    2. 3.2. Push the adapter and bearing assembly (1) onto the steering shaft assembly until the tab snaps into the slot.
  4. Install the shaft seal retainer (2) onto the adapter and bearing assembly (1):
    1. 4.1. Align the slots of the shaft seal retainer (2) to the ribs of the adapter and bearing assembly (1).
    2. 4.2. Push the shaft seal retainer (2) onto the steering shaft assembly.
  5. Install the steering shaft seal (3) onto the steering shaft assembly.
  6. Install the inner boot seal (4) onto the steering shaft assembly.

    CAUTION: Refer to SIR INFLATOR MODULE COIL CAUTION in Cautions and Notices.

    Important: The electrical contact of the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly must rest on the turn signal cancel cam assembly.

  7. Install the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly (2) onto the steering column housing assembly.
  8. Screw the 2 pan head tapping screws (1) into the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly (2).

    Tighten 

    1. Tighten the screws to 7 N.m (62 lb in).
  9. Install the ignition lock cylinder case. Refer to IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER CASE REPLACEMENT (FLOOR SHIFT)  or IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER CASE REPLACEMENT (COLUMN SHIFT) .
  10. Install the ignition lock cylinder. Refer to IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER REPLACEMENT .
  11. Enable the SIR system. Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM in SIR.
