Installation Procedure

- Install the crankshaft rear oil seal using the following procedure.
- Lubricate the seal bore to seal mating surface with engine oil.
- Slide a new crankshaft rear oil seal onto tool J 34686 . Make sure the dust lip of the crankshaft rear oil seal is flush against the J 34686 tool collar.
- Align the dowel pin of the tool J 34686
with the dowel pin hole in the crankshaft.NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE in Cautions and Notices.
- Attach tool J 34686
to the crankshaft by tightening the attaching screws.
Tighten
Tighten the J 34686 attaching screws to 3-7 N.m (27-62 lb in).
- Tighten the T handle of the J 34686 . This will push the crankshaft rear oil seal into position. Be sure that the J 34686 collar is flush against the engine block.
- Loosen the T handle completely.
- Remove the J 34686 attaching screws.
- Remove the J 34686 tool from the engine block.
- Make sure that the crankshaft rear oil seal is seated squarely in the bore.
- Install the engine flywheel. Refer to ENGINE FLYWHEEL REPLACEMENT .
