Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 GMC Sonoma, 2003 GMC Jimmy, 2003 Chevrolet S10 Pickup, and 2003 Chevrolet Blazer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Important:  When installing the input shaft seal, make sure that the part numbers on the seal are facing outward (toward the technician).

  1. Align the transfer case input shaft seal evenly on the input shaft.

    Important:  The input shaft seal should be even with the surface of the transfer case after installation.

  2. Using the J 42738,  install the transfer case input shaft seal.
  3. Install the transfer case in the vehicle. Refer to TRANSFER CASE ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT  .
  4. Check the transfer case fluid level. Refer to CAPACITIES - APPROXIMATE FLUID  .
  5. Lower the vehicle. Refer to JACKING AND LIFTING in General Information.
