Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 GMC Sonoma, 2003 GMC Jimmy, 2003 Chevrolet S10 Pickup, and 2003 Chevrolet Blazer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Install the axle shaft bearing into the axle tube using one of the following:
Drive the axle shaft bearing into the axle housing until the tool bottoms against the tube.
- For vehicles with a 7.6 inch axle, 2-Door Utilities and 4WD Pickups w/ RPO M50 and w/o RPO ZR2, use the J 23765 (1) and the J 8092 (2).
- For 2-Door Utilities and 4WD Pickups w/ RPO ZR2, use the J 23690 (1) and the J 8092 (2).

Install the axle shaft seal using one of the following:
Drive the tool into the bore until the axle shaft seal bottoms flush with the tube.
- For vehicles with a 7.6 inch axle, 2-Door Utilities and 4WD Pickups w/ RPO M50 and w/o RPO ZR2, use J 23771 .
- For 2-Door Utilities and 4WD Pickups w/ RPO ZR2, use J 21128 .

Install the axle shaft. Refer to REAR AXLE SHAFT REPLACEMENT .
Install the rear axle housing cover. Refer to REAR AXLE HOUSING COVER AND GASKET REPLACEMENT .
Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to TIRE AND WHEEL REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION in Tires and Wheels.
Fill the rear axle. Use the proper fluid.
Lower the vehicle.
