Removal (Gasoline 4.3L, 5.0L, 5.7L)

Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove starter brackets and shields as necessary. Disconnect starter solenoid wiring. Remove starter mounting bolts. Remove shims and note arrangement for reassembly (if equipped). Remove starter assembly.
