Extension Housing Assembly (4L80-E): Removal

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Support the transmission with a transmission jack. Place a drain pan under the vehicle.
  2. Remove the propeller shaft. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in appropriate DRIVE SHAFTS & UNIVERSAL JOINTS article in DRIVE AXLES. Remove the transmission support and the transmission mount.
  3. Remove the case extension bolts. Remove the case extension. See Figure. Remove and discard the case extension O-ring seal.
