Installation Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Aztek and 2003 Buick Rendezvous. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Install the case side cover inner gasket (59).
- Install the case side cover gasket (54).
- Install the case side cover pan (53).
- Install the case side cover bolts (56-58).
Tighten
Tighten the case side cover bolts (56-58) to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
- Remove the drain pan from under the transaxle.
- Connect the wiring harness connectors.
- Use the utility stand in order to raise the left side of the frame.
- Install the NEW left side frame bolts.
- Install the NEW right side frame bolts.
- Install the engine mount lower nuts. Refer to ENGINE MOUNT REPLACEMENT .
- Install the transaxle mount. Refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION MOUNT REPLACEMENT .
- Install the transaxle mount bracket. Refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION MOUNT BRACKET REPLACEMENT .
- Remove the utility stand support from the right side of the frame.
- Remove the utility stand support from the left side of the frame.
- Connect the catalytic converter pipe to the right (rear) exhaust manifold. Refer to CATALYTIC CONVERTER REPLACEMENT
.CAUTION: When installing the intermediate shaft make sure that the shaft is seated prior to pinch bolt installation. If the pinch bolt is inserted into the coupling before shaft installation, the two mating shafts may disengage. Disengagement of the two mating shafts will cause loss of steering control which could result in personal injury.
- Install the intermediate shaft to the steering gear. Refer to INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT REPLACEMENT .
- Install the left drive axle to the transaxle. Refer to the following procedures in Wheel Drive Shafts:
- AXLE SHAFTS in Rear Axles.
- AXLE SHAFT in Front Axles.
- Install the left lower ball joint to the left steering knuckle. Refer to LOWER BALL JOINT REPLACEMENT .
- Install the wheel speed sensor harness connector (2).
- Install the left tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Refer to TIE ROD END REPLACEMENT - OUTER .
- Install the stabilizer shaft links to the lower control arms. Refer to STABILIZER SHAFT LINK REPLACEMENT .
- Install the left engine splash shield. Refer to SPLASH SHIELD REPLACEMENT -- ENGINE .
- Install the left front tire and wheel.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the engine mount struts. Refer to the following procedures in Engine Mechanical.
- Remove the engine support fixture. Refer to ENGINE SUPPORT FIXTURE .
- Remove the throttle body air inlet duct.NOTE: Do NOT overfill the transaxle. The overfilling of the transaxle causes foaming, loss of fluid, shift complaints, and possible damage to the transaxle
- Adjust the fluid level. Refer to the following procedures:
- TRANSMISSION FLUID CHECKING PROCEDURE in Automatic Transaxle-4T65-E.
- Inspect for proper completion of the repairs.
- Inspect for fluid leaks.
