Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Aztek and 2003 Buick Rendezvous. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove the engine left side valve rocker arm cover. Refer to VALVE ROCKER ARM COVER REPLACEMENT - LEFT  .
  2. Remove the engine right side valve rocker arm cover. Refer to VALVE ROCKER ARM COVER REPLACEMENT - RIGHT  .
  3. Remove the upper intake manifold. Refer to INTAKE MANIFOLD REPLACEMENT - LOWER  .
  4. Remove the lower intake manifold. Refer to INTAKE MANIFOLD REPLACEMENT - UPPER  .
  5. Remove the valve rocker arms and pushrods. Refer to VALVE ROCKER ARM AND PUSH ROD REPLACEMENT  .
  6. Remove the lifter guide bolts.
  7. Remove the lifter guide.

    Important:  Place the valve train parts in a rack in order to ensure that they are installed in the same location from which they were removed.

  8. Remove the lifter (s).
  9. Clean and inspect the valve lifter (s). Refer to VALVE LIFTERS CLEANING AND INSPECTION .
