Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2003 GMC Yukon XL, 2003 GMC Yukon, 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2003 Chevrolet Suburban, and 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the lock bolt spring (3) into the steering column tilt head assembly (5).
  2. Position the cutout in the lock bolt assembly (4) at the 6 o'clock position.
  3. Install the lock bolt assembly (4) into the steering column tilt head assembly (5).
  4. Push the lock bolt assembly (4) into the steering column tilt head assembly (5) until the lock bolt assembly (4) is flush with the steering column tilt head assembly (5).
  5. Align the ignition lock cylinder case (2) with the steering column tilt head assembly (5).
    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE in Cautions and Notices.
  6. Screw the 3 pan head tapping screws (1) into the ignition lock cylinder case (2).

    Tighten 

    Tighten the 3 screws to 7 N.m (62 lb in).

  7. Install the ignition switch. Refer to IGNITION SWITCH REPLACEMENT  .

    Important:  The abrasion sleeve must be installed back onto the steering column wire harness assembly. The ignition lock cylinder case wires and connector must be hanging out of the middle of the abrasion sleeve.

  8. Install the steering column tilt head components. Refer to STEERING COLUMN TILT HEAD HOUSING REPLACEMENT (TILT)  or STEERING COLUMN TILT HEAD HOUSING REPLACEMENT (STANDARD)  .
  9. Enable the SIR system. Refer to ZONE 3 in SIR.
