Case Extension Housing: Removal

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle. Remove the right drive axle from the vehicle. See appropriate article in DRIVE AXLES. Remove the transaxle brace. See TRANSAXLE BRACE  .
  2. Remove the vehicle speed sensor. See VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR  . Remove the case extension bolts. Remove the case extension housing with axle seal and the O-ring. See Fig 1 . Inspect the case extension. See appropriate OVERHAUL article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS.
