Diagnostic Procedures
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 GMC Sonoma and 2002 Chevrolet S10 Pickup. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Perform diagnostic system check - engine controls. See DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK - ENGINE CONTROLS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing diagnostic system check, go to next step.
- Are DTCs P0452 or P0453 also set? If yes, diagnose affected DTCs first. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no, go to next step.
- Remove and then reinstall the fuel fill cap. Turn ignition on, with engine off. With a scan tool, monitor the FTP sensor voltage. Does the scan tool indicate FTP voltage is about 1.5 volts If yes, see INTERMITTENT CONDITIONS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no, go to step 5.
- Disconnect the purge pipe from the EVAP canister purge valve. Install a hand held vacuum gauge to the EVAP canister purge valve purge port. Disconnect the EVAP canister purge valve harness connector. Monitor vacuum on the vacuum gauge. Start engine and allow the engine to idle. Increase the idle to 1200-1500 RPM. Does the vacuum gauge indicate an increase in vacuum? If yes, go to step 8. If no, go to step 9.
- Does the scan tool indicate FTP voltage greater than 4.3 volts? If yes, go to DTC P0453: FUEL TANK PRESSURE SENSOR CIRCUIT - HIGH VOLTAGE . If no, go to next step.
- Check for poor connections at FTP sensor harness connector. Did you find and correct the condition? If yes, go to step 10. If no, go to next step.
- Replace FTP sensor. After replacing sensor, go to step 10.
- Turn ignition off. Check EVAP system for carbon release. If any carbon release is found, go to step 10. If no carbon release is found, go to next step.
- Replace EVAP canister purge valve. After replacing purge valve, go to next step.
- Use the scan tool in order to clear the DTCs. Turn ignition off for 30 seconds Start engine. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC. See CONDITIONS FOR RUNNING DTC . Does the DTC run and pass? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 3.
- Using scan tool, observe stored information and capture information. Does the scan tool display any DTC's that you have not diagnosed? If yes, diagnose affected DTCs. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no, system is okay.
