Diagnostic Procedures

- Perform diagnostic system check - engine controls. See DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK - ENGINE CONTROLS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing diagnostic system check, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on, with engine off. Install a scan tool. Are any component related DTCs set? If yes, diagnose affected DTCs. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, monitor Throttle Position (TP) sensor angle parameter. Slowly depress throttle while watching TP sensor voltage. Does TP voltage increase smoothly and steadily from about 0.90 volt to greater than 4.20 volts? If yes, go to next step. If no, see DTC P0122: TP SENSOR CIRCUIT - LOW VOLTAGE or DTC P0123: TP SENSOR CIRCUIT - HIGH VOLTAGE .
- Ensure vehicle has adequate amount of fuel. Add if fuel gauge is near empty. Was it necessary to add fuel? If yes, go to step 6. If no, go to next step.
- Start engine. Warm engine to 167-203°F (75-95°C) and operate at 1200 RPM. Using scan tool, observe O2S 1 voltage. Does O2S 1 voltage vary from 100-900 millivolts and occasionally toggle to greater than 447 millivolts? If yes, diagnose fuel system. See BASIC FUEL SYSTEM CHECK (GASOLINE) in appropriate BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES article. If no, see DTC P0134: O2S CIRCUIT - INSUFFICIENT ACTIVITY (SENSOR 1) .
- Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Turn ignition off for 30 seconds. Start and operate vehicle within conditions for running this DTC. Does the DTC run and pass? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 2.
- Using scan tool, observe the stored information and capture information. If scan tool displays any undiagnosed DTCs, diagnose affected DTCs. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no DTCs are displayed, system is okay.
