Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2003 GMC Yukon XL, 2003 GMC Yukon, 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2003 Chevrolet Suburban, and 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Inspect the splines of the slip yoke for a sufficient coating of lubricant. If the splines of the slip yoke does not have a sufficient coating of lubricant, lubricate the shaft with lubricant GM P/N 12345879 (Canadian P/N 10953511) or with an equivalent lubricant meeting GM specification 9985830 (RWD w/ Automatic Transmission).
  2. Install the propeller shaft into the transmission or transfer case.

    Align the reference marks made during removal.

  4. Install the propeller shaft (3) to the rear axle pinion yoke (4).

  6. Install the yoke retainers (2) and bolts (1).
    NOTE: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the yoke retainer bolts to 25 N.m (19 lb ft).

  7. Lower the vehicle.
