Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 7 other vehicles, including the 2002 GMC Yukon XL, 2002 GMC Yukon, 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2002 Chevrolet Suburban, and 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Raise the vehicle. Refer to LIFTING AND JACKING THE VEHICLE .
Important: Use the J 24319-B in order to separate all the tie rods and ball joints.
Remove the nut (2) from the outer tie rod ball stud (3).

Use the J 24319-B in order to remove the outer tie rod ball stud from the steering knuckle.
Important: Do not reuse the nut.
Remove the tie rod end from the shaft by loosening the jam nut.

Remove the outer tie rod end from the relay rod.
Inspect the shaft (6) for bent or damaged threads.
Clean the tapered surface of the steering knuckle (1).
