Disabling System (Alero, Grand Am & Malibu)

  1. Before proceeding, follow air bag service precautions. See SERVICE PRECAUTIONS . Turn front wheels to straight-ahead position. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove key from ignition switch.
  2. Remove AIR BAG fuse from junction block/fuse panel at far left end of instrument panel. See Fig 1. Wait 10 minutes. Remove Connector Position Assurance (CPA) clip, and disconnect driver 2-pin Yellow SIR connector above fuse block.
  3. Remove access panel from junction block/fuse panel at far right end of instrument panel. See Fig 2. For passenger air bag, remove CPA clip and disconnect 2-pin Yellow SIR connector above fuse block.
