Engine Front Cover Cleaning and Inspection

  1. Remove the crankshaft position sensor bolts from the engine front cover.
  2. Remove the crankshaft position sensor.
    WARNING: Bodily injury may occur if the cleaning solvent is inhaled or exposed to the skin.
  3. Clean the engine front cover with cleaning solvent.
  4. Inspect the engine front cover sealing surfaces for damage.
  5. Inspect the engine front cover threaded holes.
  6. Repair or replace the engine front cover as necessary.

  7. Install the crankshaft position sensor to the engine front cover.
    CAUTION: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE in Cautions and Notices.
  8. Install the crankshaft position sensor bolts. Apply threadlock GM P/N United States 12345382, GM P/N Canada 10953489 or the equivalent to the threads.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the crankshaft position sensor bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
