Crankshaft Balancer Installation

Tools Required 

  1. Apply sealer GM P/N United States 12345739, GM P/N Canada 10953541 or the equivalent to the keyway of the crankshaft balancer.
  2. Place the crankshaft balancer into position over the key in the crankshaft.
  3. Install the J 29113 onto the crankshaft.
  4. Pull the crankshaft balancer into position.
  5. Remove the J 29113 from the crankshaft balancer.

    CAUTION: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE in Cautions and Notices.
    CAUTION: Do not use a power-assisted tool with the special tool in order to remove and/or install this component. To ensure proper removal and/or installation of this component it is important to control the alignment process. The use of a power-assisted tool with the special tool does not allow the alignment process to be controlled properly. Improper alignment can lead to damage to the components that are being serviced.
  6. Install the crankshaft balancer washer and bolt.

    Tighten 

    • Tighten the crankshaft balancer bolt a first pass to 70 N.m (52 lb ft).
    • Tighten the crankshaft balancer bolt a final pass to 85 degrees using the J 36660-A.
