Camshaft Installation

  1. Coat the camshaft journals with clean engine oil.
  2. Coat the camshaft lobes with prelube GM P/N 12345501, (Canadian P/N 992704) or the equivalent.
  3. Install the camshaft using the following procedure:
    1. 3.1. Install a large screwdriver into the camshaft bolt hole for support. Do not damage the threads.
    2. 3.2. Rotate the camshaft while installing the camshaft into the camshaft bearings.

  5. Install the camshaft thrust plate.
    CAUTION: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE in Cautions and Notices.
  6. Install the camshaft thrust plate screws.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the camshaft thrust plate screws to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  8. Install the camshaft position sensor.
  9. Install the camshaft position sensor bolt.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the camshaft position sensor bolt to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
