Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Oldsmobile Aurora and 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Open the rear and the front doors.
  2. Remove the door trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Side Rear Door .
  3. Remove the water deflector. Refer to Water Deflector Replacement - Rear Door .
  4. Remove the center pillar garnish molding. Refer to GARNISH MOLDING REPLACEMENT -- CENTER PILLAR .
  5. Disconnect the door wire harness from the body wire harness.
  6. Remove the door wire harness connector (3) from the center pillar.

  7. Remove the door check link fasteners from the pillar.

  8. Remove the intermediate hinge fasteners (1) from both hinges.
  9. Lift the door to remove, with the aid of an assistant.

  10. Mark the position of the hinge on the body with a grease pencil.
  11. Remove the hinge to body fasteners.

    Important:  Be careful to secure the studplate within the door, when removing the hinge half from the door. The studplate is not attached to the door and could fall into the door.

  12. Mark the position of the hinge on the door with a grease pencil.
  13. Remove the hinge to door fasteners (1).
