Installation Procedure

  1. Position the intermediate steering shaft (1). Insert the shaft fully into the pinch bolt pot joint on the steering column.
    CAUTION: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE .
  2. Install the intermediate shaft upper pinch bolt (2).

    Tighten 

    Tighten the pinch bolt (2) to 47 N.m (35 lb ft).

  3. Reposition the seal as needed.
  4. Install the left IP sound insulator. Refer to CLOSEOUT/INSULATOR PANEL REPLACEMENT -- LEFT .
  5. Raise the vehicle.
  6. Install the intermediate shaft to the steering gear.
  7. Install the intermediate shaft lower pinch bolt.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the pinch bolt to 47 N.m (35 lb ft).

  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. Remove the J 42640  from the steering column.
