Installation Procedure

  1. If necessary, install the starter heat shield.

  3. If necessary, snap the transmission cover to the starter.

    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE .
  5. Install the positive cable to the starter.
  6. Install the positive cable nut (2).

    Tighten:  Tighten the positive cable nut to 9 N.m (80 lb in).

  8. Install the starter lead (2) to the starter.
  9. Install the starter lead nut (3).

    Tighten:  Tighten the starter lead nut to 3.4 N.m (30 lb in).

  11. Position the starter into place.
  12. Install the starter bolts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the starter bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

  13. Connect the oil level sensor electrical connector.

  15. Position the front axle mounting bracket bolt until the bolt is fully seated.
  16. Install the front axle mounting bracket nut.

    Tighten:  Tighten the front axle mounting bracket nut to 95 N.m (70 lb ft).

  18. Install the transmission cover bolt.

    Tighten:  Tighten the transmission cover bolt to 9 N.m (80 lb in).

  20. If necessary, install the oil pan skid plate and bolts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the oil pan skid plate bolts to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).

  22. If necessary, install the engine shield and bolts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the engine shield bolts to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).

  23. Lower the vehicle.

  25. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (Single Battery)  or Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (Auxiliary Battery) .
