Diagnostic Procedures

- Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check-Engine Controls? If yes, go to next step. If no, see DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK - ENGINE CONTROLS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Install a scan tool. Idle the engine in Closed Loop. Turn OFF all the accessories. Observe the HO2S 1 voltage display for the applicable bank on the Engine 1 Data List with a scan tool. Command the AIR pump relay ON with a scan tool. Observe and record the HO2S voltage, as the AIR pump is enabled. Does the HO2S voltage drop below 350 mV? If yes, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS . If no, go to next step.
- Visually and physically inspect all hoses and pipes for the following conditions:
- Proper connections
- Clamps are secure on pipes and hoses
- Kinks, holes, or pinched hoses and pipes
- Components with evidence of heat damage
Repair conditions as necessary. Did you find and correct conditions? If yes, go to step 7. If no, go to next step.
- Disconnect the hose from the applicable check valve at the exhaust manifold. Command the AIR pump relay ON with a scan tool. Is air pressure flow present at the hose outlet? If yes, go to step 6. If no, go to next step.
- Repair the restriction or blockage in the applicable bank AIR hoses and pipes, between the exhaust manifold and the point where the system branches to both sides of the engine. After repairs, go to step 7.
- Replace the appropriate check valve. After repairs, go to next step.
- Clear the DTCs with a scan tool. Turn OFF the ignition. Start the engine. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running DTC. Does the DTC run and pass? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 2.
- Observe the stored information, Capture Info with a scan tool. Does the scan tool display any DTCs that you have not diagnosed? If yes, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no, system is okay.
NOTE:
Before proceeding with this diagnostic procedure ensure that the AIR pump is operating and that air is present at the outlet of the AIR shut-off valve. If the AIR pump is inoperative and no air is present at the outlet of the AIR shut-off valve, refer to DTC P0410 for further diagnosis.
