Removal Procedure

Important:  Before starting the following service procedure, position the automatic transmission in the PARK POSITION. If the vehicle that is being serviced is equipped with a manual transmission, position the transmission in FIRST GEAR and place the transfer case in 2 HI POSITION.

  1. Raise the vehicle.
  2. Remove the transfer case shield. Refer to Transfer Case Shield Replacement .
  3. Remove the front propeller shaft. Refer to PROPELLER SHAFT REPLACEMENT - FRONT .

    Important:  When performing this service procedure, use a small pocket screw driver to release the retaining clip on the ends of the transfer case control shift rod.

  4. Remove the transfer case control rod from the transfer case shift control lever.
  5. Remove the transfer case control rod from the transfer case shift lever.
  6. Remove the transfer case control rod.
