Removal Procedure

Important: Before starting the following service procedure, position the automatic transmission in the PARK POSITION. If the vehicle that is being serviced is equipped with a manual transmission, position the transmission in FIRST GEAR and place the transfer case in 2 HI POSITION.
- Raise the vehicle.
- Remove the transfer case shield. Refer to Transfer Case Shield Replacement .
- Remove the front propeller shaft. Refer to PROPELLER SHAFT REPLACEMENT - FRONT

Important: When performing this service procedure, use a small pocket screw driver to release the retaining clip on the ends of the transfer case control shift rod.
- Remove the transfer case control rod from the transfer case shift control lever.
- Remove the transfer case control rod from the transfer case shift lever.
- Remove the transfer case control rod.
