Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 12 other vehicles, including the 2002 GMC Savana Special, 2002 GMC Savana Camper Special, 2002 GMC Savana, 2002 Chevrolet RV Cutaway, and 2002 Chevrolet Cutaway. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Did you perform the diagnostic system check? If so, go to next step. If not, see DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Install a scan tool. Turn ignition on, engine off. Before clearing the DTC, use the scan tool to record the failure records. Using the CLEAR INFO function erases the failure records from the PCM. Record the DTC failure records. Does the scan tool display a transmission fluid temperature less than 4.93 volts? If so, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS  . If not, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect the transmission in-line 20-way harness connector. Additional DTCs may set. Install Jumper Harness (J 44152) on the transmission side of the transmission in-line 20-way harness connector. Using a DVOM and Connector Test Adapter Kit (J 35616-A), measure the resistance between jumper harness terminals "L" and "M". Is the resistance less than 100 k/ohms? If so, go to step  6 . If not, go to next step.
  4. Measure the resistance between terminal "L" and all other terminals of the jumper harness. Is the resistance between terminal "L" and any other terminal less than 1000 k/ohms? If so, go to step  7 . If not, go to next step.
  5. NOTE: High voltage (battery voltage) in the signal circuit may cause an open in the TFT sensor.
  6. Test the signal circuit (1227) of the TFT sensor for a short to voltage between PCM connector C2 and the transmission in-line 20-way harness connector. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step  9 . If not, go to step  7 .
  7. Test the signal circuit (1227) of the TFT sensor for an open between the PCM connector C2 and the transmission in-line 20-way harness connector. Test the low reference circuit (2762/407) of the TFT sensor for an open between the PCM connector C1 and the transmission in-line 20-way harness connector. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step  9 . If not, go to step  8 .
  8. Replace the transmission internal wiring harness. See TRANSMISSION INTERNAL WIRING HARNESS  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Did you complete the replacement? If so, go to step  9 .
  9. Replace the PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Did you complete the replacement? If so, go to next step.
  10. Perform the following procedure to verify the repair:
    • Select DTC.
    • Select CLEAR INFO.
    • Operate the vehicle so that the TFT sensor indicates a voltage less than 4.93 volts for 407 seconds (6.8 minutes).
    • Select SPECIFIC DTC.
    • Enter DTC P0713.

    Has the test run and passed? If so, system is okay. If not, go to step  1 .
