Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Oldsmobile Aurora and 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the reader/exciter module to the ignition lock cylinder. Refer to THEFT DETERRENT EXCITER MODULE REPLACEMENT .
  2. If ignition lock cylinder was previously seized proceed with steps 2.1 through 2.4, If not go to step 3.
    1. 2.1. Turn the new ignition lock cylinder to the run position.
    2. 2.2. Turn the ignition switch to the run position.
    3. 2.3. Slowly push the ignition lock cylinder into the ignition switch until fully seated.

      It may be necessary to slightly depress the release button as it passes by the 1/4 inch hole previously drill in the ignition switch housing.

    4. 2.4. Reinstall the ignition switch. Refer to Ignition Switch Replacement  .
    5. 2.5. Go to step  5.
  3. Position the ignition lock cylinder (1) with the key installed into the opening in the ignition switch (2).
  4. Press the ignition lock cylinder into place.

    The lock cylinder retaining tab will produce an audible click when fully seated.

  6. Using light force, pull on the lock cylinder in order to ensure the lock cylinder is engaged and secured in place.
  7. Install the HVAC control module assembly. Refer to HVAC CONTROL MODULE .
  8. Install the radio. Refer to RADIO REPLACEMENT (W/O UM8) or RADIO REPLACEMENT (W UM8) .
  9. Install the IP cluster trim plate bezel. Refer to Trim Plate Bezel Replacement - IP Cluster  .
  10. Install the IP center trim plate. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - IP Center  .
  11. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE DISCONNECT/CONNECT PRO .
  12. Inspect the ignition switch for proper operation in all positions.
  13. Release the parking brake.
  14. Enable the SIR system. Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM in Airbag .
