Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Oldsmobile Aurora and 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to DISABLING SYSTEM .
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE DISCONNECT/CONNECT PROCEDURE .
  3. Remove left insulator panel. Refer to Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Left  .
  4. Remove right insulator panel. Refer to Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Right  .
  5. Remove the IP outer trim covers. Refer to Instrument Panel (IP) Outer Trim Cover Replacement  .
  6. Remove the IP upper trim pad. Refer to Trim Pad Replacement - IP Upper  .
  7. Remove the center console. Refer to Console Replacement - Front Floor  .
  8. Remove the radio. Refer to RADIO REPLACEMENT (W/O UM8) or RADIO REPLACEMENT (W UM8) .
  9. Remove the HVAC control module assembly. Refer to HVAC CONTROL MODULE .
  10. Remove the drivers information center. Refer to Driver Information Center Module Replacement  .
  11. Remove the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement  .
  12. Remove the knee bolster brackets. Refer to Bracket Replacement - Knee Bolster  .
  13. Remove the fasteners securing the steering column to the IP carrier, lower and position the column out of the way. Refer to STEERING COLUMN REPLACEMENT .
  14. Remove the IP cluster. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Replacement  .
  15. Remove the valet switch. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Valet Lock Out Switch Replacement  .
  16. Remove the IP storage compartment. Refer to Storage Compartment Replacement - IP  .
  17. Disconnect the center IP to body electrical harness connector.
  18. Disconnect the right IP to body electrical harness connector.
  19. Disconnect the left IP to body electrical harness connector.
  20. Remove fasteners securing the IP retainer to IP carrier.
  21. Remove the IP retainer from the carrier, feed wiring through openings as necessary.
  22. If the IP retainer is to be replaced, transfer all necessary components.
