Oil Life Index

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Oldsmobile Aurora and 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The oil life parameter is calculated by the powertrain control module (PCM), and the information is provided to the DIC via class 2 messages. The oil life parameter is displayed on the DIC in the following format:

OIL LIFE ###%

The ### represent the calculated oil life value. The value ranges between 100% and 0%. The DIC displays - instead of an oil life index value if the DIC detects a loss of class 2 communications with the PCM. The oil life is reset to 100% by pressing the RESET button for greater than 3 seconds while the oil life index message is displayed.
