Removal (Right)

  1. Disconnect battery negative cables. Drain engine coolant and engine block. See DRAINING & REFILLING COOLING SYSTEM . Remove right front fender wheelhouse inner panel. Remove turbocharger. See TURBOCHARGER .
  2. Remove turbocharger charged air cooler outlet duct. Remove clamp and hose from charged air cooler. Remove charged air cooler outlet duct. Remove thermostat housing crossover. See THERMOSTAT HOUSING COVER . Remove right fuel rail assembly. See FUEL RAIL ASSEMBLY .
  3. Remove right intake manifold. See INTAKE MANIFOLD . Remove upper right valve rocker arm cover. See VALVE ROCKER ARM COVERS . Remove right exhaust manifold. See EXHAUST MANIFOLD . Remove lower right valve rocker arm cover. See VALVE ROCKER ARM COVERS .
  4. Remove valve rocker arm shaft assembly, pushrods, and valve bridges. See VALVE ROCKER ARM, SHAFT & PUSHROD . Remove glow plugs. See GLOW PLUGS .
  5. Remove fuel injector return pipe eye bolts and washers. Remove fuel injector return pipe assembly. Remove fuel injector bracket bolts. Using Injector Remover, remove fuel injectors with fuel injector brackets. Remove injector bracket pins. Remove cylinder head bolts in sequence. Discard bolts. See Figure.
  6. Remove cylinder head assembly. Remove and discard cylinder head gasket. Clean sealing surface of engine block and cylinder head.
  7. Clean all dirt, debris, and coolant from engine block cylinder head bolt holes. Failure to remove all foreign material may result in damaged threads, improperly tightened fasteners or damage to components. Clean cylinder head bolt holes in engine block.
