Tools Required

J 38816-A  Water Pump Remover/Installer

  1. Remove the heater inlet pipe fitting.

  2. Remove the engine coolant outlet fitting.
  3. Remove the rear lift bracket bolt.
  4. Remove the rear lift bracket.

  5. Remove the EVAP emission canister purge valve bolts.
  6. Remove the EVAP emission canister purge valve.

  7. Remove the EGR bracket shield nut.
  8. Remove the EGR bracket shield.

  9. Remove the EGR valve bolts.
  10. Remove the EGR valve.
  11. Remove the EGR gasket.

  12. Remove the throttle body bolts.
  13. Remove the throttle body and plenum duct.
  14. Discard the plenum duct, do not reuse.

  15. Remove the accelerator control cable bracket bolts.
  16. Remove the accelerator control cable bracket.

  17. Remove the MAP sensor.

  18. Remove the water pump cover bolt and studs.
  19. Remove the water pump cover.

  20. Remove the water outlet bolts.
  21. Remove the water outlet and thermostat.
  22. Remove the water pump cover gasket.

  23. Remove the water pump and seal using the following procedure:
    1. 23.1. Index the J 38816-A  socket into the water pump.
    2. 23.2. Align the J 38816-A  support plate on the water crossover.
    3. 23.3. Install the J 38816-A  support plate on the water crossover using the water pump cover bolts.
    4. 23.4. Unlock the water pump from the water crossover by turning the J 38816-A  socket clockwise.
    5. 23.5. Remove the J 38816-A  support plate from the water crossover.
    6. 23.6. Remove the J 38816-A  socket.
    7. 23.7. Remove the water pump.
    8. 23.8. Remove the water pump seal and discard.
