Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo and 2002 Chevrolet Impala. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key from the ignition lock cylinder in order to lock the steering column.
  2. Remove the intermediate shaft seal from the steering column.
  3. Disconnect the intermediate shaft from the steering column. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement .
  4. Push the intermediate shaft down in order to collapse the intermediate shaft.
  5. Remove the intermediate shaft seal bolts.

    Important:  It may be necessary to remove the lower portion of the intermediate shaft seal from the steering gear.

  7. Remove the intermediate shaft seal.
