Turn Signal Cancel Cam and Bearing Thrust Washer - Disassemble - Off Vehicle

Tools Required:

J 23653-SIR Steering Column Lock Plate Compressor
J 42137 Steering Column Lock Plate Compressor Adapter

WARNING: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

Air bag deployment
Personal injury
Unnecessary SIR system repairs

In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:

Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to DISABLING SYSTEM .

Disable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to DISABLING SYSTEM .
Important: Let the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil assembly hang freely after removal.
Remove the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil assembly. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil - Disassemble - Off Vehicle .
Compress the shaft lock shield assembly using J 23653-SIR and J 42137 .
Remove the bearing retainer (1) from the steering shaft assembly.
Discard the bearing retainer.
Remove J 23653-SIR and J 42137 from the steering shaft assembly.

Remove the following parts from the steering shaft assembly:
1. The shaft lock shield assembly (4).
2. The turn signal cancel cam assembly (3).
3. The upper bearing spring (2).
4. The thrust washer (1).
