Removal Procedure

WARNING: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:
  • Air bag deployment
  • Personal injury
  • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
  • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
  • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to DISABLING SYSTEM .
  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to DISABLING SYSTEM .
  2. Remove the Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control actuator. Refer to SHIFT LOCK SOLENOID .
  3. Disconnect the park lock cable assembly (1).
  4. The steering column lock cylinder set should be in the OFF-LOCK position.

  5. Insert a small screwdriver into the slot on the lock module assembly and push against the locking tab to remove.
  6. Disconnect the automatic transmission shift lock control electrical connector from the park position switch.
  7. Remove the park position switch assembly from the linear shift assembly.

  8. Remove 3 flat head 6 lobed socket tap screws from the linear shift assembly.
  9. Remove the linear shift assembly from the steering column.
  10. To disassemble the linear shift assembly, proceed to the next step.

  11. Remove the hexagon flange head bolt from the gear shift lever assembly.
  12. Remove the ball and actuator assembly (2) from the gear shift lever assembly.
  13. Remove the shift lever clevis (1) from the support bracket for the gear shift lever assembly.

  14. Remove the 3 oval head 6 lobed socket tapping screws from the shift gate.

    Remove the park lock cable assembly from the support bracket for the gear shift lever assembly.

  15. Remove the hexagon flange head bolt from the cable shift cam assembly (1).
  16. Remove the cable shift cam assembly (1) from the support bracket for the gear shift lever assembly.
  17. Remove the cam bushing (2) from the cable shift cam assembly (1).

  18. Remove the 3 flat head tapping screws from the support bracket for the gear shift lever assembly.
  19. Remove the gear shift lever assembly support bracket from the steering column support assembly.
