With DRL

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 GMC Savana Special, 2002 GMC Savana Camper Special, 2002 GMC Savana, and 2002 Chevrolet Chevy Express. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Did you review the SYMPTOMS - HYDRAULIC BRAKE? If so, go to next step. If not, go to SYMPTOMS - HYDRAULIC BRAKE  .
  2. Verify a fault is present. Does the brake warning indicator function normally? If so, condition is intermittent. Go to INTERMITTENT  . If not, go to next step.
  3. Turn OFF the ignition for 5 seconds. Turn ON the ignition while observing the brake warning indicator. Does the brake warning indicator illuminate for 3 seconds and then turn OFF? If so go to step  5 . If not go to next step.
  4. Install a scan tool. Select the 4WAL 3 SENSOR CURRENT DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES function on the scan tool. Does the scan tool display DTC C0288? If so, see Anti-Lock Brake System. If not, go to step  11 .
  5. Apply the park brake. Does the brake warning indicator illuminate? If so go to step  20 . If not go to next step.
  6. Crank or start the engine while observing the brake warning indicator. Does the brake warning indicator illuminate when the ignition is turned to START? If so go to next step. If not, go to step  13 .
  7. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. Disconnect the park brake warning switch harness connector. See PARK BRAKE WARNING LAMP SWITCH  . Connect a jumper wire between the park brake switch signal circuit and a good ground. Does the brake warning indicator illuminate? If so go to step  9 . If not go to next step.
  8. Repair the open in the park brake switch signal circuit. After repairs are complete, go to step  27 .
  9. Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the park brake warning switch. Did you find and correct the condition? If so go to step  27 . If not, go to next step.
  10. Replace the park brake warning switch. See PARK BRAKE WARNING LAMP SWITCH  . After repairs are complete, go to step  27 .
  11. Turn OFF the ignition. Disconnect the EBCM 10-way harness connector. Connect a jumper wire between the ABS pressure differential sensor signal circuit and a good ground. Turn ON the ignition. Does the brake warning indicator illuminate? If so go to step  25 . If not go to next step.
  12. Turn OFF the ignition. Reconnect the EBCM 10-way harness connector. Remove the instrument panel cluster (IPC). See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER REPLACEMENT . Connect a test lamp between the battery positive voltage circuit and the brake warning indicator control circuit at the instrument panel cluster harness connector. Turn ON the ignition. Does the test lamp illuminate for 3 seconds and then turn OFF? If so go to step  17 . If not go to step  16 .
  13. Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the DRL control module. Did you find and correct the condition? If so go to step  27 . If not go to next step.
  14. Test the brake warning indicator control circuit for an open. Did you find and correct the condition? If so go to step  27 . If not go to next step.
  15. Replace the DRL control module.
    1. Remove the instrument panel driver knee bolster panel.
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the DRL module. See Figure
After repairs are complete, go to step  27 .
  16. Repair the open in the brake warning indicator control circuit or the ABS pressure differential sensor signal circuit. After repairs are complete, go to step  27 .
  17. Inspect the brake warning indicator lamp for an open (burned out) filament. See ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS . Did you find and correct the condition? If so go to step  27 . If not go to next step.
  18. Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the IPC. Did you find and correct the condition? If so go to step  27 . If not go to next step.
  19. Replace the instrument panel cluster. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER REPLACEMENT . After repairs are complete, go to step  27 .
  20. Disconnect the brake pressure differential switch harness connector. See COMBINATION VALVE  . Connect a jumper wire between the ABS pressure differential sensor signal circuit and a good ground. Does the brake warning indicator illuminate? If so go to next step. If not go to step  22 .
  21. Test the ground circuit of the brake pressure differential switch for an open. Did you find and correct the condition? If so go to step  27 . If not go to step  23 .
  22. Repair the open in the ABS pressure differential sensor signal circuit. After repairs are complete, go to step  27 .
  23. Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the brake pressure differential switch. Did you find and correct the condition? If so go to step  27 . If not go to next step.
  24. Replace the brake pressure differential switch. See COMBINATION VALVE  . After repairs are complete, go to step  27 .
  25. Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the EBCM. Did you find and correct the condition? If so go to step  27 . If not go to next step.
  26. Following EBCM replacement, use the scan tool to perform the Tire Size Calibration procedure. Replace the EBCM. See Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) Replacement in Anti-Lock Brake System. After repairs are complete, go to next step.
  27. Verify the system is repaired. Does the brake warning indicator function normally? If so system is okay. If system is not okay, go to step  3 .
