Drum Brake Backing Plate: Removal

  1. Raise and support the vehicle with suitable safety stands. Remove the tire and wheel. Install the pin into the park brake lever. See DISABLING THE PARK BRAKE CABLE AUTOMATIC ADJUSTER  .
  2. Remove the rear brake drum. See BRAKE DRUM  . Remove the rear brake shoes. See BRAKE SHOES  . Remove the rear wheel cylinder. See WHEEL CYLINDER  . Remove the rear brake anchor pin. See Figure .
  3. Remove the rear brake backing plate retaining bolts and washers. Remove the rear brake backing plate from the vehicle.
