Drum Brake Adjusting Screw: Removal

  1. Raise the vehicle. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Remove the brake drum. See BRAKE DRUM  .
  2. Remove the brake shoe return springs. See Figure .
  3. Remove the brake shoe guide.
  4. Remove the hold down springs. See Figure . Remove the hold down pins.
  5. Remove the actuator lever and the actuator lever pivot. See Figure . Remove the actuator lever and the lever pivot. Remove the lever return spring.
  6. Remove the park brake strut and the strut spring. See Figure .
  7. Remove the adjusting screw assembly and the adjusting screw spring from the brake shoes. Inspect all remaining parts for discoloration due to heat or stress. Replace parts as needed.
