Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Buick Regal. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Install the oil level sensor, located in the oil pan, after the oil pan is installed. The sensor may be damaged if the oil level sensor is installed first.
  1. Install the oil pan gasket and the oil pump pipe screen assembly.

    Tighten: 

    Tighten the oil pump pipe screen bolts to 15 N.m (11 lb ft)

  2. Install the oil pan.
  3. Clean the oil pan bolts and apply one drop of thread lock compound GM P/N 12345382 or equivalent to the oil pan bolt threads.

    Important:  DO NOT overtighten bolts or damage to the oil pan may occur, resulting in an oil leak.

  4. Install the oil pan bolts.

    Tighten: 

    Tighten the oil pan bolts to 14 N.m (125 lb in)

  5. Install the oil level sensor.

    Tighten: 

    Tighten the oil level sensor to 20 N.m (15 lb ft)

  6. Install the torque converter covers. Refer to TORQUE CONVERTER COVER REPLACEMENT in AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE - 4T65-E .
  7. Install the engine mount and the bracket to the frame.
  8. Using the jack stands raise the frame to the original position.
  9. Install the frame bolts.
  10. Remove the jack stands.
  11. Install the right ball joint to the steering knuckle. Refer to LOWER CONTROL ARM REPLACEMENT
  12. Install the right stabilizer link. Refer to STABILIZER SHAFT LINK REPLACEMENT
  13. Install the engine mount bracket to the engine.
  14. Loosely install the right engine mount bracket bolts to the engine.

  15. Loosely install the left engine mount bracket bolts to the engine.

    Tighten: 

    Tighten the engine mount bracket bolts to 102 N.m (75 lb ft)

  16. Lower the vehicle.
  17. Using the engine support fixture lower the engine.
  18. Raise the vehicle.
  19. Install the engine mount lower nuts to the frame.

    Tighten: 

    Tighten the engine mount lower nuts to 78 N.m (58 lb ft)

  20. Install the oil level sensor wiring harness and the oil level sensor wiring harness bolt to the engine.

    Tighten: 

    Tighten the oil level sensor wiring harness bolt to 10 N.m (89 lb in) 

  21. Connect the oil level sensor electrical connector.
  22. Install the power steering oil cooler pipe brackets to the frame.
  23. Install right exhaust manifold pipe stud nuts to the catalytic converter.

    Tighten: 

    Tighten the right exhaust manifold pipe stud nuts to 32 N.m (24 lb ft)

  24. Install the engine oil filter.
  25. Lower the vehicle.
  26. Remove the engine support fixture.
  27. Install the right and left engine mount struts. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Right  or Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Left 
  28. Install the air inlet duct to the throttle body.
  29. Connect the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor electrical connector.
  30. Fill the crankcase with engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement 
  31. Install the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement (L36)  or Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement (L67) 
  32. Connect the negative battery cable.
  33. Inspect for leaks.
  34. Measure the wheel alignment. Refer to MEASURING WHEEL ALIGNMENT
