Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement (L36)  or Drive Belt Replacement (L67) 
  3. Raise and support the vehicle.
  4. Remove the right front tire and wheel.
  5. Remove the right engine splash shield.
  6. Remove the torque converter cover. Refer to TORQUE CONVERTER COVER REPLACEMENT in AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE-4T65-E .

  7. Install the J 37096 to hold the flywheel.

  8. Remove the crankshaft balancer retaining bolt.

    Important:  Do not separate the crankshaft pulley from the crankshaft balancer. Service the crankshaft pulley and the crankshaft balancer as an assembly.

  9. Install the J 38197-A.
  10. Remove the crankshaft balancer.
  11. Remove the J 38197-A.
