Removal Procedure

WARNING: Do not use or attempt to repair a damaged cooling fan assembly. Replace damaged fans with new assemblies. An unbalanced cooling fan could fly apart causing personal injury and property damage.
  1. Remove the air cleaner and the duct. Refer to the appropriate procedure:
  2. Remove the coolant recovery reservoir or surge tank. Refer to Coolant Recovery Reservoir Replacement  or Surge Tank Replacement .
  3. Remove the upper radiator shroud from the radiator. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement .
  4. Remove the fan clutch assembly on the 4.3L, 5.0L, 5.7L and 8.1L using the J 41240  . Use the prongs of the J 41240-1 in the holes of the water pump pulley.
  5. Remove the fan clutch assembly on the 6.5L using the J 41240-5A  . Use the prongs of the J 41240-1 in the holes of the water pump pulley.
  6. Remove the retaining bolts from the fan and clutch.
  7. Remove the fan from the clutch.
