Removal Procedure

- Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle with suitable safety stands.
- Remove the retaining clip bracket nut.
- For all gas engine, remove the engine oil cooler lines from the retaining bracket.
- For the 6.5L only, remove the bolt securing the engine oil cooler line from the retaining bracket.
- For the 4.3L only, remove the engine oil cooler line retaining bolt from the oil filter adaptor.
- Remove the retaining ring with bent-tip screwdriver or equivalent.
- Remove the engine oil cooler liner retaining clips in the following manner:
- Using the bent-tip screwdriver or equivalent, pull on one of the open ends of the retaining ring in order to rotate the retaining ring around the quick connect fitting.
- Rotate the retaining ring around the quick connect fitting until the retaining ring is out of position and can be completely removed.
Important: When performing following service procedure, do not reuse the old retaining clips. Replace the old retaining clips with new ones.
- Remove the retaining ring from the quick connect fitting in the following manner:
- Discard the retaining ring.
- Pull the engine oil cooler line straight out from the quick connect fitting.
- For the 5.0L/5.7L only, remove the engine oil cooler lines from the oil filter adaptor, and repeat steps 5 through 7.
- For the 8.1L only, remove the engine oil cooler lines from the oil filter adaptor, and repeat steps 5 through 7.
- For the 6.5L only, remove the engine oil cooler lines from the oil filter adaptor and repeat steps 5 through 7.
- Remove the engine oil cooler lines from the radiator, and repeat steps 5 through 7.
- Remove the engine oil cooler lines from the auxiliary oil cooler, and repeat steps 5 through 7.
